WHAT IS HACKYEAH?

Oh, it’s just the biggest stationary hackathon in Europe. Basically, the 24h long IT festival where a large number of people will get together in up-to-6-people groups to create great things. During HackYeah you will experience live-coding, of course!, conference, meetups, lectures, workshops, late-night talks and plenty of fun!

IS HACKYEAH FOR ME?

 

To be telling the truth we believe HackYeah is for everyone.

The only thing you need to have is eagerness to create and work on the solution! Obviously, you can be a programmer, UXer, graphic designer or so but YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ONE!

I DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CODING. WHAT SHALL I DO?

 

First of all, stop worrying! You don’t need to know much about programming to do great!
Secondly, we’re sure you have some other skills – are you a graphic designer? UXer? Are you a creative beast? Or the greatest leader of all times? Every team needs all of these people to succeed!

Find some friends beforehand on HackYeah discord or on the HackerEarth platform or meet them during HackYeah in the Team Building Zone. Check its location on the venue maps in the eventory app or on the screens around the venue.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

 

HackYeah is open for everyone.
You don’t know anything about programming? Come on in!
Are you a student? Join us!
Are you an undergraduate? We’ll be glad to meet you.
If you are a specialist in your branch – you have to be here.

No matter if you’re at entry level, a junior, mid, senior or an IT star.
We invite all of you!

We are calling for fans of creative thinking, problem-solving, planning, idea implementing, leading and also of VR, AR, AI, IoT, Data Mining, Gamedev, Productdev, Mobile, and specialists in programming languages: Java, C/C++, C#, .Net, Scala, Swift, Objective C, JavaScript, PHP, Python, Ruby, HTML5, SQL.

HOW WILL HACKYEAH WORK?

1. The door opens & registration begins
2. We conduct the opening ceremony
3. The coding begins and it lasts for 24 hours
4. Team building space is conducted for contestants needing team members
5.  The coding finishes and the ideas are evaluated by the judges. Teams prepare for pitching.
6. After the pitching, the judges choose the winners in each category.

In the meantime, you can take breaks, eat some food, enjoy the attractions of the chill zone and partners zone or have some sleep.

How to proceed?

1. First read all the tasks
2. Read the rules of the tasks you find interesting
3. If you accept all the rules choose the task you want to work on
4. If you have trouble with figuring out what to do go for a walk to Mentors Village or Partners Zone and let them help you!
5. Once your project is done upload it to the platform listed in the task rules.
6. If you feel your project might win, work on a pitch presentation to present to the jury.
7. Wait for the announcements
8. Win the eternal fame and a nice prize!

WE HAVE A TEAM, WHAT NOW?

 

Find a place where your team can work.
Plug in the internet cable.
Read all the task requirements, if you agree with them, proceed.
If you’re lost or not sure what to do, go to the Partners Zone or Mentors Village and let them help you!

WHAT ARE THE TASKS?

 

There are two types of tasks:

  • Open tasks in three categories: Health, Finance & Investments, Education. In these categories, the direction in which you’ll go is completely up to you!
  • Partners tasks are the ones our partners came up with. They have special requirements and regulations so make sure to read them before starting!

WHAT ARE THE MAIN TASKS?

 

There will be three main open categories. TBA soon.

What will be your task? It’s all up to you! Will you create an AI that is capable of diagnosing the common flu, VR game which helps kids in learning anatomy, innovative system improving money transfers or something even crazier? The only limit is your imagination!

WHAT ARE THE PARTNERS TASKS?

 

Last year there were plenty of them. We will announce this year’s tasks soon!

ENTRY TICKETS FOR HACKYEAH

 

  • Attendee – 49,00 PLN
  • Early Bird with a free T-SHIRT – 49,00 PLN (limited to 100 tickets)
  • Guest – 49,00 PLN (for attendees not taking part in task solving)

All the profit from the tickets will be donated to Szkoła 3.0 – NGO that organizes IT courses for Children’s Homes in Kraków.

We promise it’s worth it! You’ll spend some crazy time with us, coding, networking and attending lectures. We will feed you and provide plenty of attractions!

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TICKET?

 

  • Participation in the hackathon
  • Badge
  • Several meals (both meat and vegetarian options)
  • Coffee breaks
  • Free entrance to the Tech Night Talks conference
  • All of the attractions such as massages, climbing wall, party with DJs.

HOW WILL THE JUDGES EVALUATE TASKS?

 

Each of the tasks will have separate rules regarding evaluation. All the details can be found in the description section of each task.

For the main three categories the judges will judge according to the following proportions:

  • Idea – 30%
  • Technical aspects – 30%
  • Design – 20%
  • Relation to category – 10%
  • WOW! Factor – 10%

Besides that our partners will prepare some special tasks based on their current needs – it’s a superb opportunity for you and a huge step in your career.

ARE THERE ANY PRIZES?

 

Of course, there are! Last year the prize pool was over half a million Polish Zloty!
This year’s prizes will be announced soon.

WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER HACKYEAH?

I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO WORK ON?

Our mentors, partners and community partners are here to help you. 

Go to the Mentors Village to get help with ideas about health, finance or education, any programming language, hardware or creative thinking!

Go to Partners Zone to get information and help with any of the partners’ tasks.

WE HAVE FINISHED, WHAT NOW?

 

Upload your project to the proper platform. If it is the main task this platform would be HackerEarth.
If it is a partners task this will depend on the partners’ regulations. Check it in the rules of the task.

Finished early?

  • If you feel like your task might win start thinking about your pitch (the short presentation in which you’ll briefly tell the judges about your project).
  • Start another task! There is no limit on how many you can fulfil!
  • You’re tired and don’t feel like doing anything? Help yourself to some snacks, chill while playing on PlayStation or go to the massage station.

HOW MANY PEOPLE SHOULD THERE BE IN A TEAM?

 

The team should be 1 to 6 people, so you can go as a lone wolf or gather together with your friends! You don’t need to register your team prior to the event!

I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, CAN I GO ALONE?

 

No problem with that! You can work alone but…
if you want to form a team we will provide a special team building space where, under the eye of mentors and volunteers, you’ll be able to form your dream team! With all the skills it needs to win!

I HAVE A GREAT IDEA BUT DON’T HAVE A TEAM…

 

No worries, you can team up during the hackathon!

Just after the opening ceremony, we will provide a team building zone where, under the eye of mentors and volunteers, you’ll be able to find teammates that will follow your lead!

The location of this zone can be found on the venue maps in the eventory app and on the screens around the venue.

Besides, you can also look for your mates just now on the HackerEarth platform!

WHERE CAN I SLEEP DURING THE HACKATHON?

 

We’ve prepared a special, quiet REST ZONE on the 1st floor of Global Expo. Just bring your sleeping bag and a mat if you need one!

You can find the location of this zone on the venue maps in the eventory app and on the screens around the venue.

HOW CAN I GET TO HACKYEAH?

All the details regarding arrival to the venue will appear here shortly!

 

IS THERE ANY FOOD PROVIDED?

 

Sure thing! We will provide several meals for all the attendees and will be serving them for a full hour so you don’t need to rush!

If you’re an animal lover and don’t eat meat we’ve got you covered – we will provide a non-meat alternative to every meal we provide at HackYeah!

WHAT TO BRING WITH ME?

 

First of all, you’ll need your laptop, and maybe a smartphone, screen, 3D printer or anything else you find useful! Don’t forget about your charger!
If you plan to sleep during the hackathon bring a sleeping bag and a mat.

WHO OWNS THE RIGHTS TO WHAT WE CREATE?

 

It depends on the task.

In the open tasks, it is you who keep all the rights to the projects.

Some partner tasks might require you to transfer the rights after you accept the prize. To make sure what are the regulations in your task check the rules of it. You can find a link with regulations next to the task description.

CAN I BRING MY OWN ROUTER / HOTSPOT?

 

Please don’t! We will provide internet access to every contestant! Your additional wireless routers might break the internet. No joking!

WILL YOU PROVIDE THE INTERNET?

 

Yes, we will so please don’t use your own hotspots!

We will provide you with two symmetrical channels with a capacity of 1Gbps and an emergency one with a capacity of 500 Mbps. You’ll be able to connect with the wire we provide in the Coding Zone.

HOW CAN I UPLOAD MY FINISHED PROJECT?

 

You should upload it to the platform required by the regulations of the task.

The open tasks need to be uploaded to the HackerEarth platform.

Partners tasks may have different regulations, check the rules in the task section.

 

CAN I TAKE PART IN MORE THAN ONE TASK?

 

Sure, do as many as you can! There are no limits to that!

Just make sure that if your tasks require uploading to HackerEarth and you upload more than one you need to use a different email address for each of them.

CAN I BE IN MORE THAN ONE TEAM?

Yes! No problem with that! We do not verify your team until you upload the project, it is totally up to you in how many teams you’ll be a part of.

CAN I CHANGE MY TEAM DURING THE HACKATHON?

 

Sure, you can change your team as many times as you want. Just make sure to be a member of one when you upload the project, this is the final declaration of who is in your squad

DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN LAPTOP?

 

You should… We do not provide laptops so unless you have anything else to work on better bring the laptop!

WHAT IF I DON’T MAKE IT ON TIME TO UPLOAD THE PROJECT?

 

The Deadline is the deadline. You cannot bend it and cannot break it so better make sure everything is ready a few minutes earlier not to miss it!

DO I NEED TO PRESENT MY IDEA?

 

Once you upload your task the judges will select 3 best teams, for each open task, that will have to present their ideas in front of the whole community so make sure to have something prepared!

For each of the partner tasks, it is up to them if they will choose the finalists to present. Check out the regulations of each partner task to make sure what they expect from you!

After you upload your idea you’ll have around 2 hours to create the presentation!

NIE MÓWIĘ PO ANGIELSKU, CZY MOGĘ PRZYJŚĆ?

 

Jasne! Organizatorzy wydarzenia i uczestnicy będą mówić po Polsku więc nie musisz się martwić!

Pamiętaj tylko że prezentacja Twojego projektu musi być wygłoszona po angielsku więc upewnij się, że chociaż jeden członek Twojego zespołu mówi po angielsku!

I WILL BE LATE, CAN I COME AFTER THE CODING STARTS?

 

Yes! The registration will be working all the time so you can join us even in the middle of the night!

CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD?

 

Sure, if you want to bring your own sandwiches or a jar with your dad’s best stew there is no problem with that!

Yet if you don’t bring anything don’t worry, we provide food and drinks!

Also, if our food is not enough you can buy some yummy snacks in the venue, during the event!

CAN I LEAVE THE EVENT AND COME BACK?

 

Yup! You’ll get your personal badge and You can leave and come back as many times as you want!

CAN I COME ONLY FOR THE CONFERENCE?

 

We won’t be mad at you if you do so but we strongly encourage you to bring your laptop and try coding, maybe the vibe of the place will convince you to stay and win the hackathon!

CAN I COME IF I DON’T KNOW HOW TO CODE?

 

Sure! You don’t need to know how to code as long as you have a great idea, spirit or some other skills!

I’M NOT PROUD OF MY PROJECT, DO I HAVE TO UPLOAD IT?

 

No, if you don’t like what you came up with it is not mandatory to upload it! Yet we still encourage you to try as maybe the judges will see something in it that you don’t see!

How to register?

 

If it’s your first time on HackerEarth:

  • Register to the platform
  • Register to our hackathon – HackYeah 2019
  • Create a team and invite your mates!

If you have already used HackerEarth:

  • Register to our hackathon – HackYeah 2019!
  • Create a team and invite your mates!

If you got an invitation to join a team:

  • HackerEarth will automatically create your account for HackYeah. Just follow their lead!

I can’t create a team!

 

This may be because once you are a member of a team you cannot create a new one.
But there is an easy solution! Simply set up a new account with a new email address and we promise it will work!

I can’t join another team! / Another task!

 

The reason for this might be the fact that you are a member of a different team. Simply set up a new account with new email address and use it to join another team/task!

The internet is lagging…

 

We feel you… And we are extremely sorry if it happens. Try being patient and make sure you start uploading your task early enough!
